Exam 2-Scatterplot Flashcards
0
Q
Response variable
A
Measures outcome on each individual; denoted by y
1
Q
Bivariate data
A
Data collected on two variables for each individual in the study. We study the relationship between these two variables.
2
Q
Explanatory
A
May explain or influences changes in the response variable; denoted by X
3
Q
Correlation coefficient
A
A measure of strength of the linear relationship between two quantitative variables , r
4
Q
Analyzing Quantitative Bivariate Data
A
- Plot data with scatter plot, look for overall pattern of relationship, especially outliers
- Compute r
- Model linear relationship with a straight line equation called the regression equation
5
Q
Examine Scatterplot for Relationship
A
- Direction- positively sloped as x increases y increases, negatively sloped as x increases, y decreases
- Form - linear , shape suggests straight line ; nonlinear - shape suggest curvature (quadratic, exponential)
- Strength - strong (hotdog) points concentrate about the form; weak - points very loosely scattered about the form hamburger.
