Analyzing Quantitative Bivariate Data

A
  1. Plot data with scatter plot, look for overall pattern of relationship, especially outliers
  2. Compute r
  3. Model linear relationship with a straight line equation called the regression equation

Q

Examine Scatterplot for Relationship

A
  1. Direction- positively sloped as x increases y increases, negatively sloped as x increases, y decreases
  2. Form - linear , shape suggests straight line ; nonlinear - shape suggest curvature (quadratic, exponential)
  3. Strength - strong (hotdog) points concentrate about the form; weak - points very loosely scattered about the form hamburger.
