Exam 2 Kidney Flashcards
1
Q
Nephrotic Syndrome Patho
A
glomerular membrane becomes permeable to proteins (leaks proteins into urine)
2
Q
Nephrotic Syndrome S/S
A
- Weight gain
- Facial edema (subsides during day)
- plural effusion
- diarrhea
- anorexia
- fatigue
- normal to slightly low BP
- frothy urine
- decreased urine output
- Protein in urine
3
Q
Nephrotic Syndrome Diagnostic
A
> 2+ protein in urine (UA)
- serum protein/albumin decreased
- Serum Na+ may be low
4
Q
Nephrotic Syndrome Onset
A
1st episode and relapse happen at the same time as viral/bacterial infection
5
Q
Nephrotic Syndrome Interventions
A
- 25% albumin infusions
- Dietary restriction (severe)
6
Q
Acute glomerulonephritis (AGN) Patho
A
Inflammation of the glomeruli and becomes permeable to RBC’s
(Streptococcal Infection)
-Increase of H2O = increase of Na+
7
Q
Acute glomerulonephritis (AGN) S/S
A
- periorbital edema travel throughout day
- facial edema
- pallor
- lethargy
- headache
- *Hypertension
- look sick
- After 10-21 days between strep and onset of symptoms
- *heRBCs and protein in urine
8
Q
Acute glomerulonephritis (AGN) Diagnostics
A
- Cloudy, smoky brown urine (decrease in urine)
- BUN/CREAT increased in 50% of pop
- ASO titer
9
Q
Acute glomerulonephritis (AGN) Interventions
A
- Daily weights
- Vital Signs
- Strict I&O
- Dietary restrictions (low protein, salt, potassium)
- Monitor electrolytes and BP Q4-6hrs
- Meds: Diuretics or antihypertensives PRN
10
Q

A
Corticosteroids (1st)
Diuretics
