What are the non-nursing perioperative team?
Anaesthetist, Anaesthetist tech, Surgeon, Perfsionist, Ordely, Orthopedic Technician, Radiographer, CSSD staff, Support staff
What does the Anaethstetist do?
Selects anaesthesia, monitors/maintains ABC, manages pain, N/V, post op nursing requirements, documentation
What does the Anaesthetic Tech do?
Helps prepare equipment, checks patient into anaesthetic room, checks equipment at start of day, restocking
What does the surgeon do?
Pt prep, scheduling, book emergencies, dicides on instruments/equipment requirements, infection control, documentation
What does the perfusionist do?
Assists anaesthetic during cardiac bypass
What does an Orderly do?
Pt tansport/transfer/positioning, cleaning, urgent delivery of blood products/specimens
What does orthopaedic Technician do?
Instrument maintenance, orders instrument/prosthesis, positioning
What does radiographer do?
Pre/intra/post op xrays, Intra-operative Immage Intensifier
What do CSSD staff do?
Provide sterile supplies, cleans, checks, packages, disinfection and distribution
What is the Perioperative period?
Time period surrounding a patient’s surgical procedure; includes ward admission, anesthesia, surgery and recovery.
What is Surgery?
The medical specialty that treats diseases or injuries by operative manual and instrumental treatment
Who does the count?
2 nurses, one must be an RN, the 2 people who do the count in must do the count out.
What does the recovery room nurse do?
Maintain ABC, Pain, N/V relief, Assess wound site, manage hydration and drainage
Why intubate?
Maintain clear airway in difficult circumstances. operations on head, neck, mouth, throat and nose. protection of trachea/ controlled ventilation
