Exam 1 week 3 Flashcards
unconditioined stimulus
a stimulus that brings out a response without prior learning.
Unconditional response
natural reacion to the UCS
conditioned stimulus
previously neutral stimulus that is paired with the unconditioned stimulus and acquires the ability to elecit a response similat to but not identical with the UCR
conditioned response
the response that is brought out by the conditioned stimulus
defensive (aversive) conditioning
UCS is emotionally negative
appetitive conditioning
UCS is emotionally possitive
temporal conditioning
UCS happens at regual interbals of time
semantic conditioning
words or phrases become established as the CS
higher-order conditioning
when one CS is paired with a UCR, but it is then used to created another CS(2).
Backward conditioning
UCS is presented first, then the CS is presented. results in littler or no conditioing.
simultaneous conditioning
the CS and the UCS are presented at the same moment
acquisition phase
the period of time wht the CS and the UCS are presented together as a pair
trace conditioning
when the CS(lightning) occurs seperated by a ling period of time fomr the UCS(thunder)
delayed conditioning
there is no gap between CS and the UCS
overshawdoing
when we present two CS’s together and follow them both with a UCS.
Blocking
takes place in three stages and shows the effect that conditioning one CS can have on the Conditioning of another CS.
latent inhibition
the fact that if a neutral stimulus is presentd repeatedly without a UCS it is dificult to condition that stimuus at a later time.
sensory preconditioning
when two neutral stimuli are presented together without a UCS, if one of those t=stimuli is later conditioned to a UCS the other stimulus will also acquire the conditioned response
extinction phase
the steady decline is the strength of the conditioned response when the CS is presented alone without the UCs (decline in response strength following practice without a UCR)
forgeting
the decline in response strength following a period without practice.
Spontaneous recovery
reappearance of the extinguished response following without a breakfrom training
counter conditioning
procedure that allows humans and non humans to replace one conditioned response with another.
generaliztion gradient
the closer the similarly of the other object to the original CS, the stronger the tendency to respond.
generalization decrement
the decrease in response strength as the similarity between the original CS and the other test stimuli decreases.
