Exam 1 week 2 Flashcards
Paradigms
a general approach to or way of thinking about problems
hypothesis
guess or assumptions about cause and effect relationships
independent variable
manipulated variable.
extraneous variable
unwanted variable (counfounding, nuisance)
operational definitions
define an event in termsof the operations required to measure it
cumulative record
measures the rate of responding of learning
baseline period
control group
possitive corelation
both correlations will rise or fall together
experimental group
the group that experiences the experiemental procedure (IV inflicted)
theories
general summarie statements about cause and effect in relationships. widely accepted
laws and principles
cause andeffect relationships supported by much evidence (2nd law of thermodynamics)
dependent variable
responses that change because of the IV. the consequence. the result.
ABA reversal design
a type of singlecase experimental design in which a Baseline of Behavior is first taken (A), followed by an Intervention phase (B), then a return to baseline phase where the intervention is removed (A), and a final phase in which the intervention is reintroduced (B). When changes in behavior occur only during the intervention phases, this provides evidence that changes in behavior are due to the intervention.
measurement
assigning a number to an observation
cumulative record
device that record operant behavivor overal.
