Water
What is a nursing consideration for expectorants?
Need to explore how long cough has been occurring, etiology, and use of expectorants. Cough could indicate an underlying problem that medication has been masking.
How old must a child be for expectorants?
> = 6 months.
Consult with an MD/pharmacist if < 4 years
Adverse effects of expectorants?
Drowsiness, dizzy, HA, GI upset
Contraindications of expectorants?
< 6 months
Hypersensitivity

Liquid, tablet, sprinkles
