Some terms in the study guide
Conservatory
A school for music, normally used to teach orphans girls and boys
Character piece
A piece of characteristic music, a short piece to express a singular ideas/emotions and etc.
Fundamental bass
A note or fundamental note that is the bass of the ideal chord or key
Tonic, Subdominant, Dominant
Coined by Jean-Philippe Rameau describes the relationships between scale degrees and the tonic, we use these terms in todays music theory.
Modulation
A term describing the way of graduating key changed

Two books written by Johann Sebastian Bach are keyboard pieces in all 12 keys.
The art of Fugue
A compositional book written by Johann Sebastian Bach, though incomplete, is a book of keyboard fugues, roughly around 20.
Chorale
Sets of sacred music written for church’s to sing, similar to hyms.
Prelude
A intro to a larger piece, normally can be used as its own work.
Concerto
A piece of music made for small and specific instruments, for example like 4 strings or a solo hard and 3 strings.
Ritonello Form
A form where a certain line or idea is repeated a couple of times throughout the song/piece.
Fugue
An idea that is repeated and kept throughout the song.
Suite
A set of dancelike music
Variation
Slight changes to a melody, like tempo changes, key changes, ornamentations, etc.
stretto
A line of music is overlapped by other voices/instruments while also slowly speeding up.
Collegium Musician
A set of amateur singers that come together to sing, much like a community choir.
Cantata
Music that is made for vocal work, mainly solo, opera, and recitative and also for choirs as well.
Mass
A large set of music, a work made for the church, made with different types of styles as well.
Opera
A dramatic depiction of a story, with staging, sets, costumes, choirs, and continuous music and orchestra.
Simple Recit
A recit that is either a cappella or accompanied with a simple piano line.
Accompanied recit
A recit that is accompanied with a orchestra, or choir while still being a recit.
English oratorio
A oratorio that emphasizes the use of the chorus.
Coloratura
A soprano that uses a lot of ornamentation in their vocal works
