Indications:
* tonic-clonic seizures
* partial seizures
Side effects:
* drowsiness
* gingival hyperplasia
* Steven-Johnson Syndrom
* nystagmus (toxicity)
Administration:
* PO: take with food, educate oral hygiene
* IV: administer slowly
* Extended release: should not be crushed
* do not give w milk
Contraindications/ Precautions:
* Grape fruit can increase drug levels

carbamazepine

Indications:
* treatment of tonic-colonic
* partial seizures
* mood stabilizer for bipolar disorder
Side effects:
* hepatotoxicity
* ataxia
* drowsiness
* Steven-Johnson Syndrome
Administration:
* PO: take with food
* IV
* Extended release should not be crushed
* do not give w milk

* Grapefruit juice can increase drug level
* decreases hormonal bc effects

Indications:
* treats all seizure types
* mania in bipolar disorder
* prevents migraine
Side effects:
* Hepatotoxicity
* drousiness
* dizziness
* bleeding
Administration:
* PO: take with food
* Extended release: do not break
* do not give with milk or carbonated drinks
