exam 1 1.2 material Flashcards
Mitosis
cell division to divied duplicated chromosomes in daughter cells for somatic cells, 46 chromosomes. IPMAT
Interphase
not part of mitosis, time in cell when chromosomes are duplicated and the cell prepares for mitoctic process. happens inbetween two mitotic events.
Chromosomes not visible
Prophase
1st stage of mitosis. formation begins. chromosomes begin to form dark threads, and nuclear memebrane begins to dissolve. asters begin to form 1,2
Metaphase
2nd stage of mitosis. when chromosomes have attached to the spindle fibers to form a metaphase plate. asters fully formed spindles show 1,2,3
Anaphase
3rd stage of mitosis, chromosomes have been separated and are being dragged toward either end of spindle apparatus. 1,2
Telophase
4th mitosis stage, chromosomes have been dragged to the opposite pole of the spindle apparatus and, cell membrane begins to pinch in to form two daughter cells. 1,2,3
Cytokinesis
cell membrane pinching in to form two daughter cells.
Metaphase plate
in metaphase when the duplicated chromosomes form a tight band across the middle of the spindle apparatus.
Daughter cells
two cells which are the result of one cell undergoing mitosis and cytokinesis
Spindle apparatus
two asters with centrioles at their center and the spindle fibers that connect between the two asters
Spindle fibers
formed of microtubules and make a bridge between two asters upon which the chromosomes attach.
Aster
the part of the spindle apparatus that forms on opposite sides of the cell and forms an anchoring point for the spindle fibers in forming the spindle apparatus. Two centrioles in the cell form the center in each of the two asters.
