Evolution of the theory of the atom Flashcards
Plum pudding model
A large cloud of positive charge with lots of negative electrons dotted throughout
Alpha particle scattering experiment
Rutherford and Marsden did an experiment to test the plum pudding model, they fired positively charge alpha particles at this thin sheet of gold foil. Most went straight through, some got deflected a little bit and some got deflected a lot. This suggested that there was a small centre that was positive surrounded by negative, this led to the development of the nuclear model by Bohr that we use today.
