Evolution Flashcards
Evolution in present times:
RESISTANCE TO ANTIRETROVIRALS IN HI-VIRUSES
- some of the viruses develop mutations that make them resistant to the ARV drugs. This introduces variation in the population
- The application of ARV’s changes the environment and acts as a selection pressure.
- The mutant, resistant viruses selected, survive the treatment and multiply, passing on the mutant gene to their offspring.
- A drug-resistant virus population develops.
Advantages of Bipedalism
upright bodies expose a smaller surface area to the sun which reduces the risk of overheating while hunting, foraging and escaping predators
Hands are free to use tools, prepare food, carry young
Vision extends further over the tall grass to find food or avoid predators
Describing evolution
There was alot of variation in the (watever example used)
Wat was the variation described?
Only some survived as they were better suited (state who survived and which died out) and why this happened
State in detail why the one species survived
That favorable characteristic of (something) was passed to their offspring
And eventually there was a greater population of (that species)
When explaining bipedalism
Always state how the change assisted with the transition to bipedalism
E.g the for men magnum has moved to base of the skull
SO THAT the head can be held vertically
State what is the Out of Africa Hypothesis
Modern!!! Important to say MODERN humans originated in Africa and then migrated to other continents
Genera to be bipedal but did not use fire
Australopithecus
Aedipithecus
