(Jun 2023) reasons for him being a tyrant who abused the Cheka ,shut down the Kronstadt sailors, and did not represent all workers.
- Shut down the Constituent Assembly after the 1917 Free Elections resulted in a SocRev majority
- Banned all non-bolshevik newspapers
- Cheka had 200k members by 1921
- denounced Kronstadt sailors as anti-revolutionaries despite them being leftist.
Problems faced by people living in Russia pre-1905
- Famine e.g a widespread one in 1901
- lack of political freedoms e.g anti-Tsar officials were purged in 1900.
- Limited sanitation and running water in cities.
How the Russian people were affected by WW1
- Army: 9 million killed, lost faith in Tsar due to poor results under his leadership, mutiny
- Workers : More work needed for war effort, same pay. Inflation meant they worked harder to be able to buy abt a quarter of the food they previously did.
- Peasants: Many were in the military, and the widows/casualties from the war did not recieve compensation promised. They still needed to work v. hard for the war effort.
- Middle class: Had trouble running factories due to raw material shortages. Angry as Tsar dismissed Duma during war.
- Aristocracy: barely suffered, less peasants to be servants and higher Rasputing influence ig.
Agriculture changes under Stalin’s modernisation of the USSR
