Q

The birth of Jesus was so important that all of history is measured by it. Everything that has happened on this planet falls into a category of before Christ or after Christ.

B.C. and A.D.
B.C. and A.D. are the oldest date abbreviations still in use. “B.C.” stands for “before Christ,” as in, before the birth of Jesus Christ, a central figure in Christianity. “A.D.” stands for anno Domini, meaning “in the year of the Lord” in Latin. There is no year zero in this system — 1 A.D. was the year Christ was born, and 1 B.C. was the year before he was born.
It is unknown when this naming system first came into use, but the terms were adopted separately — “A.D.” was used centuries before “B.C.” ever was. By the eighth century, “A.D.” was used regularly in England in church documents and charters, and its use quickly spread throughout western Europe in the ninth century. “B.C.” took much longer to catch on. There were variants of the “before” part until the 18th century, when “B.C.” finally became mainstream.
Although the B.C./A.D. system took a while to become standardized, it smoothed out a lot of calendar confusion. Before this dating system, years were centered around significant events, such as the rules of emperors and kings, leaving room for a lot of misinterpretation and errors. The B.C./A.D. system was the first time that every single year was accounted for in such a uniform way

Scribes, hid scrolls in caves because of Roman oppression. When the Dead Sea Scrolls are ancient manuscripts were discovered between 1947 and 1956, the entire book of Isaiah was found in one clay pot.

A

The Dead Sea Scrolls are ancient manuscripts that were discovered between 1947 and 1956 in eleven caves near Khirbet Qumran, on the northwestern shores of the Dead Sea.

The entire book of Isaiah was found in one clay pot.

The manuscripts fall into three major categories: biblical, apocryphal, and sectarian. The biblical manuscripts comprise some two hundred copies of books of the Hebrew Bible, representing the earliest evidence for the biblical text in the world. Among the apocryphal manuscripts (works that were not included in the Jewish biblical canon) are works that had previously been known only in translation, or that had not been known at all. The sectarian manuscripts reflect a wide variety of literary genres: biblical commentary, religious-legal writings, liturgical texts, and apocalyptic compositions. Most scholars believe that the scrolls formed the library of the sect that lived at Qumran.

There is a close affinity between this scroll and the Book of Jubilees and Book of Enoch, fragments of these books having been also found among the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Jesus lived His whole life within the district of Galilee, Samaria, and Judea. For the vast majority of His life, He never traveled outside of a 100 mile radius from where He was born. Yet His name is spoken and known in every corner of the earth.

The first line of the Didache, which was rediscovered in 1873, is: “The teaching of the Lord to the Gentiles (or Nations) by the twelve apostles”.[a] In this treatise, the Lord’s Prayer is included in full.

A

Lost for centuries, a Greek manuscript of the Didache was rediscovered in 1873 by Philotheos Bryennios, Metropolitan of Nicomedia, in the Codex Hierosolymitanus. A Latin version of the first five chapters was discovered in 1900 by J. Schlecht.[9]

The first line of this treatise is: “The teaching of the Lord to the Gentiles (or Nations) by the twelve apostles”.[a] The text, parts of which constitute the oldest extant written catechism, has three main sections dealing with Christian ethics, rituals such as baptism and Eucharist, and Church organization. The opening chapters describe the virtuous Way of Life and the wicked Way of Death. The Lord’s Prayer is included in full.

Q

One of the most beautiful elements of salvation is its simplicity. Christ is already done all the work on the cross. According to Beth Moore in her book, Breaking Free, what is the verse that expresses this truth so simply and what should be the four elements of our response?

A

John 8:36 “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” P24

  1. Acknowledge that you are a sinner and that you cannot save yourself.
  2. Acknowledge that Jesus Christ is the son of God and only He can save you.
  3. Believe that Him crucifixion was for personal sins and that his death was in your behalf.
  4. Give Him your life and ask Him to be your savior and Lord. P24

Q

what it means to be born again

A

If the focus of our lives becomes a performance-oriented, scorecard handed to us by a modern Pharisee, will never see our strengths. That’s because focusing on the rules serves a major purpose—namely, to condemn us because we can’t keep them! As Romans 3:23 says, for all of sin and fall short of the glory of God.“
However, when we look at Christ, His spirit takes the veil of blindness from our eyes; we accept the forgiveness and newness of life he offers; and we find that the rules of God’s way of life that were once outside us become mysteriously written on our hearts (see 2 Cor. 3:4–11). Then we are free from the condemnation of basing our lives on a set of enslaving rules and daily drilling drill, sergeant inspections, and we’re free to love and serve him and righteousness from a place of refreshing acceptance.
