Evaluation of WMM Flashcards
Who did Shallice and Warrington 1970 assess?
a patient KF who had suffered brain damage
What did Shallice find in KF?
poor STM ability for verbal but could process visual normally - when presented visually he was not good with sounds but good at letters
What does dual-task performance support?
the idea of existence of a visuo-spatial sketchpad
What did Baddeley 1975 find?
participants had difficulty doing two visual tasks, not visual and verbal
How is their lack of clarity over central executive?
cognitive psychologists state WMM/CE is unsatisfactory - not fully explained
What happens as the CE increases?
the WMM has to work harder to fulfil the functions needed
What did Braver et al 1997 give participants?
tasks that involve the entire executive whilst brain scanning - finding there was more activity in pre-frontal cortex as task difficulty increased
