Research
Lots of studies have demonstrated that cues are important for example, Baddley and Tulving have both demonstrated this. Baddley said that people were able to recall word lists better when they were in a similar environment to the one they were in when they learned them.
Applications
It can support us because it shows how recall can be improved. For example, if we are learning something in a subject we can learn an acronym. In Maths BODMAS helps us to remember the steps involved in a calculation. Each letter acts as a trigger e.g. B = Brackets.
Weaknesses
It does not explain that all cues are not equally as powerful. For example context dependent cues are not as helpful as meaningful ones.
