What does FETO(D) stand for?
It is an acronym used to guide our structure when asked to explain or evaluate the capacity or effectiveness of health promotion
F = feature
E = example
T = therefore
O = outcome i.e. why does that make the health promotion have a higher capacity to improve health?
(D) = dimension IF asked to link to health and wellbeing
State an outcome of a program being culturally appropriate
Participants are more likely/willing to engage with the program and it’s messages
Participants may be more likely to understand program e.g. if in multiple different languages
State an outcome of a program being sustainable
The health messages e.g. knowledge and skills can be passed down through generations from current to future leading to long term gains
State an outcome of a program targeting a specific area of need
The program is likely to have a greater impact if it is targetting a specific area of need
State an outcome of a program being accessible
Participants are more likely to engage if they do not have to travel long distances to access the program e.g. mobile van
Participants are more likely to engage if the message is delivered e.g. in images so those who are young, unable to read or illiterate can access the health messaging
State an outcome of a program being affordable
Participants are more likely to participate if the barrier of cost is removed e.g. program is free
