What is the aim of a case study?
A
- is to describe, understand, and often explain a psychological or social phenomenon from the perspective of the participant(s)

Strengths of case studies (3)
A
- well-suited to investigate sensitive and complex issues in areas that could not be studied otherwise
- useful for studying group processes within a social group (e.g. beliefs)
- results from a case study may generate entirely new knowledge which challenges preconceived notions

A
- researcher bias potential problem since researchers own beliefs and ideas could influence data collection
- generalization of findings from single case study is not always possible
- risk of researcher bias since researcher and participants interact for long periods
