Eva Smith Flashcards
DESPARATE
“SHE CAME FOR YOUR HELP AT A TIME NO WOMAN COULD HAVE NEEDED IT MORE”
→she was vulnerable and it was her last hope. Mrs B was a mother and still could not empathise with her
“SHE WAS ALONE HERE, FRIENDLESS, ALMOST PENNILESS AND DESPARATE”
→ everyone else had left her and she had no one to turn to.
REAL PERSON
“I MADE HER TAKE THE MONEY BACK TO STOP HER GOING THERE”
→ highlights she didn’t want to take the money due to very ‘made’ so wasn’t a mercenary shows she was noble and highlights Birling’s immorality
VULNERABLE / INNOCENT
→Priestly shows how one by one all of the characters use her shows how the upper class exploits the middle class for their needs ( give and eg Sheila)
“SHE OBVIOUSLY WASNT ENJOYING HERSELF, SHE LOOKED OUT OF PLACE THERE”
→ she didn’t want to sell herself and was innocent to the disgustingness of the place. she was just there so she could survive
PROMISING
“SOFT BROWN HAIR AND BIG DARK EYES”
→ameliorative language shows she was very promising and had potential
“SO SHE’D COME TO YOU FOR ASSISTANCE BEACAUSE SHE DIDN’T WAT TO TAKE STOLEN MONEY”
→she was a noble and good person whose life was cut short due to them, makes her death seem more tragic which highlights the Birling’s immorality
