Eukaroytic And Prokaryotic Flashcards

Q
What do prokaryotic cells have?
A
Little internal structure - lack a clearly defined structure to house their DNA - plasma membrane - no nucleus - lack all other organelles (besides cells walls and ribosomes - smaller in size - contains one circular strand of DNA -
1
Q
What do eukaryotic cells have?
A
- plasma membrane
- more complex structure
- nucleus with a clearly defined membane called a nuclear envelope
- DNA is located in the nucleus
- larger in size
2
Q
What organisms have eukaryotic cells
A
All animals, plants, fungi and protists
3
Q
What organisms have prokaryotic cells
A
Bacteria and all Archaeans
4
Q
Difference between animal and plant cells
A
Plant cell: - cells wall Larger in size - Rectangular (fixed shape) - One, large central vacuole taking up 90% of cell - plant cells have chloroplasts because they make their own food - lysosomes are usually not evident - very rare to have cilia ANIMAL CELLS: - no cell wall - round irregular shape - one or more SMALL vacuoles Do not have chloroplasts - have lots of lysosomes
