ETOPS Flashcards
Adequate Airport
Any airport where a safe landing can be made:
Within 60 % of the runway
No need ARFF
No need list
May be military
How do you define ETOPS entry point?
1 Hr from ADQ airport (SSS) single engine / still air / std temp
Based on single engine speed - reference ETP block
270 kts = 391NM
Display via PROG 4R
Select ADQ airport - reference distence
Consider Fix info
What do you need before EEP
Review ETOPS alternate WX.
Must be above HA approach minima (earliest - latest arrival)
If not - dispatch should send amended release with alternates within 180min of ETP and WX at or above approach minima
What is an ETOPS suitable alternate?
Airport within 180min from most distant diversion (ETP)
(SSS) 180MIN = 1,200NM @ 290KTS
120MIN with certain MEL items
- Must be listen in OPS SPEC B342 as ETOPS alternate or in C070 as regular alternate.
- Needs ARFF
- Must meet C055 Alternate WX requirements (cat 1)
- Conditions must allow for safe landing (NOTAMS etc)
B342 ETOPS flight limitations (fire suppression etc)
May not release a flight unless:
1. Max diversion time to alternate (from ETP)
-All engines operating
-Accounting for actual winds and temps
>Does not Exceed most limiting fire suppression system - 15 minutes (A330 is 260mins)
- Max diversion time to alternate (from ETP)
-Single engine
-Accounting for actual winds and temps
>Does not Exceed most critical ETOPS system - 15 minutes (Not including fire suppression)
What if diversion time from ETP on release exceeds 180mins?
What if reaching ETP with less than critical fuel?
This is OK because it is accounting for actual winds.
180 min is planning with still air.
Critical fuel is also for planing only.
How is Critical Fuel determined?
Worst case of 3 scenarios: to either alternate
1. Engine failure - drift down to engine out altitude - fly SE
2. Pressurization lost - immediate elevator to 10K - Fly at 10K
3. Both - Press lost down to 10k and fly single engine
- Reaching Alternate descend to 1,500 and hold for 15 min and fly IAP to land
- 5% buffer added to winds (unfavorable)
- APU fuel is included for entire diversion
-MEL/CDL penalties applied
How is ICE penalty determined for ETP?
Dispatch uses WSI to view any portion on diversion that is in forecast icing. (at or below 5C in 55% or greater humidity)
If no portion of diversion enters icing conditions:
NO ICE will be entered on ETP block
If any portion of diversion is in icing, that portion will be rounded up to nearest 10%
ENG and WING AI will be applied for 100% of the time in icing (10,20,30 % etc)
Destination (Extended overwater) / WX needed for: Dispatch / En-route / Approach
Dispatch: None (as long as qualified alternate listed and meets C055)
En-Route: None
Approach: Min vis
Destination Domestic: WX needed for: Dispatch / En-route / Approach
Dispatch: Minima (EX3585) / En-route: none / Approach: VIS
Destination supplemental (not extended overwater) Dispatch / En-route / Approach
Dispatch: Minima / En-route: None / Approach VIS
Destination and T/O alternate: Dispatch / En-route / Approach
Dispatch: C055 / En-route C055 / Approach VIS
ETOPS alternate: Dispatch / En-route / Approach
Dispatch: C055 / En-route: Vis minima / Approach : VIS
Needed to enter ETOPS airspace
Review WX of alternates- from earliest to latest ETA they must be above vis mins to shoot approach. If not, Need amended release with alternates that are at or above HA IAP minimums
How do you determine WX minima to list destination alternate if destination is international?
Use C055 or “for filing as alternate minimums” whichever is higher. (look at this when en-route to ensure you don’t need a new alternate)
