Ethics
Principles that serve as a compass about how to behave
Legal
An act that is allowed or is in conformity with the law of the land
Legal-ethical
When the law and personal or organizational ethics are in accordance with each other
Legal-unethical
Dilemma in which established laws are not in accordance or do not uphold the ethical choice
Illegal-ethical
Dilemma in which the ethical choice would be in violation of established laws
Values
Stable life goals that people have that reflect what is most important to them
Morals
Rules people develop as a result of cultural norms and values and are, traditionally passed down through generations and characterize a cultural group
Person ethics
Personal ethics refers to the principles that guide a person’s behavior in every day life. They help determine what is right, wrong, just, good and bad regarding a persons interactions with others.
Organizational ethics
Organizational ethics is a branch of applied ethics that focuses on rules, principles, and principles, and standards in the context of business activities.
Organizational ethic levels
Societtal—concerns issues relating to the world as a whole
Stakeholder issues—concerns policies that affect its customers, employees,suppliers,and people with in the community
Internal policy issues—concerns internal relationships between a company and its employees
Personal issues—concerns how people treat others in their organization
Code of conduct
Used to ensure a shared understanding of ethical practices and behavior
How do businesses encourage and support ethical behavior among employees?
Ethics and compliance initiative suggest that the ethical tone is set by organizational leadership.
Ethics and integrity tend to start at the top and trickle down.
When executives establish specific, measurable objectives for the company, those objectives determine where people will focus their time and effort.
Business ethic survey how many employees felt pressured to meet unrealistic goals?
70% felt pressure to meet unrealistic goals as the most likely factor to cause the to compromise their ethical standards. 75% said either senior or middle management as primary source of such pressure.
