What is the Olympic oath
The Olympic Oath is a pledge taken by an athlete, a coach, and an official at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.
The athlete swears to compete in the Olympic Games in a fair and sportsmanlike manner, without the use of doping, while respecting the rules of the competition.
Reasons why the olympic oath today is relevant and reasons why it is irrelevant
Relevant:
-Main goal of sport is to compete to your best abilities
-Outside of personal each country should have an equal opportunity of success
-Updated regularly
Irrelevant:
-Commercialisation has led to the win ethic
-Athletes are still likely to take PEDs to increase their chances of winning
What is gamesmanship
and give examples in modern-day sport
Bending the rules and stretching them to their absolute limit without actually breaking the rules or getting caught.
Examples:
-Delaying play
-Time wasting
-Psyching out an opponent
-Sledging: Verbally/physically distracting opponents
-Faking an injury
What is the win ethic and what is one of the main causes of it
The win ethic refers to the belief that success in sport is the most important goal.
Mostly caused by COMMERCIALISATION
What is deviance
Going against the norms of society

Positive deviance: over-conformity to the norms of society

Negative deviance: under-conformity to the norms of society
