What is sportsmanship?
A
- Behaviour that shows fair play, respect for opponents, umpires and spectators, and gracious behaviour in victory or loss

A
- Shaking hands in netball/football at the end of a game
- Kicking the ball out when players are injured in football
- Swapping shirts at the end of a football match

What does sportsmanship help to do?
A
- Make an activity enjoyable
- Encourage a good atmosphere and friendliness
- Supporting the officials and umpires helps the game to flow better
- IT can help raise the status of the sport and provide good role models

What is gamesmanship?
A
- Bending of the rules to gain and unfair advantage

An example of gamesmanship
A
- Re-tying your shoelaces when they don’t even need tying
- Whispering things in an opponents ear to distract them from scoring a corner in football
- Sanding down the side of a cricket ball so it curves the other way and is harder for the batter to hit

A
- Cheating
- Behaviour against the written and unwritten rules of the sport, often illegal in nature
