Ethics Flashcards
Parallel Process means?
An overidentification with the supervisee.
The same interactional phenomena that affect client/provider relations can also affect the interactions between social work supervisors and supervisees.
Transference (the bringing of unwarranted feelings into the relationship from the supervisee),
Countertransference (the supervisor’s own outside feelings coming into the relationship), and parallel process (an overidentification with the supervisee) are all both risks and opportunities for growth.
Identification is not one of the interactional phenomena.
Is bartering ever acceptable in exchange for social services?
Though it is problematic, it is sometimes acceptable to accept barter in terms of goods or services for social work services.
The determination of its acceptability should be a rigorous one, in which, among other factors, there should be a guarantee that such an exchange is fair, that it is an accepted local practice, that it is done with informed consent, and so on.
The practice of bartering is discouraged in general, but not forbidden outright, owing to the vast diversity of circumstances that social workers and their clients experience.
Dual relationships between social workers and clients should be avoided in any event, and might also be significant in issues around transacting services.
Sen was monitoring a new social policy that he evaluated and determined would affect some of his practice’s clients. What was he doing?
One of the key ethical responsibilities of the social work profession—according to the NASW Code of Ethics—is to monitor and evaluate social policies. New laws are social policies; therefore, Sen was monitoring a new social policy that he evaluated and determined would affect some of his practice’s clients.
The other answer options are incorrect because new laws are part of social policies, not the growth and development of social work or the improvement of social work practices.
What are the 6 core social work values?
The six social work core values are service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence.
