Risk Assessment and Management
Assessment- Identifying potential physical or psychological harm to PP during a study
Management - Weighing up the balance of long-term gains vs short term risks to PP. This is then presented and reviewed by an ethics committee.
Consent and Debrief
Seeking freely given con sent from PP who have been given sufficient info on which to make a decision.
PP should be clear about what participation will entail. they should be debriefed about the true nature of the study and be allowed to ask questions.
PP should have right to refuse permission for researcher to use any data they produced.
Research Ethics Committee
A group of people within a research institution who approve a study before it begins. The look at all possible ethical issues and how the researcher plans to deal with them, weighing up value of research against ethical costs.
