Advantages

A

+ Useful way to conduct a preliminary analysis on data.

+ Provides a means of looking at continuous variables and determining whether the relationship is sig.

Disadvantages

A
  • Cannot show a cause and effect relationship as there is no IV that has been deliberately altered.
  • If co-variables are correlated, one may be causing the changes in the other but we do not know the direction of the possible effect e.g. a positive correlation between amount of violent videos watched and aggression. It could be that instead of the videos increasing aggression, aggressive people choose to watch the violent .videos.
