this principle is about taking care of participants, such as avoiding distress or harm. the researcher is held accountable for their work.
(p) integrity
psychologists and researchers must maintain professional boundaries and look for misconduct in others. they must be honest and accurate and be clear abut any conflicts of interest.
(p) respect
refers to a number of different ethical issues around treating a person as an individual and in a fair and unprejudiced way.
(p) competence
all researcher and practice in psychology should be carried out within the researchers or the psychologist’s ability.
(g) confidentiality
protect personal information.
-data published should not be identifiable
-have the right to expect confidentiality
-can be overridden in some cases, e.g protect from harm, to disclose illegal activity
-special consideration to children

participant not told a study’s true aim and/or procedures
-if a researcher gives false info to participants, do not have informed consent
-true aim of a study may be hidden to prevent biasing findings
-study may involve using a confident, should only be used if; essential, research has strong scientific merit.
