What does ETCS do? (4)
-Provides movement authority to the next signal
-provides advanced notice of changes to track conditions, gradients, distances and changes of track speed
-Applies emergency brakes before point of collision/ danger
-Ensures train speed complies with permanent track speed and train type restrictions excl. TSR’s
What must operators do upon activation of emergency brakes?
Advise TC immediately and relay details of any error messages
Can a train run with a defective or isolated ETCS unit?
No
What must TC do if an in service train reports defective ECTS unit?
Advise train to empty passengers at the next platform (unless special circumstances exist) and run the train empty to the nearest depot for repair
