What are the first 3 steps to accessing SAPD channels?
- Determine SAPD CHANNEL being used for incident
- Unlock radio by pressing “m” key then the down button
- Once keypad unlocked, press “4”. (The shortcut to SAPD fleet)
What are steps 4-6 of accessing SAPD fleet?
- Once on SAPD fleet, use channel selector knob to scroll through available channels until the one you’re looking for is reached
- To return to your assigned SAFD channel press “1” for Fire “2” for medical
- Re-lock radio keypad by pressing “m” twice then the down button
What is the response communication order for high risk medical emergencies?
A. While responding check LMDT and determine which SAPD channel is being utilized
B. Officers radio shall be turned to appropriate SAPD channel
C. Once on designated channel and on-scene staging, hail SAPD dispatcher and transmit your message
D. SAFD shall stay on SAPD channel until all clear is given
E. Officer or paramedic returns to SAFD channel once SAPD contact no longer needed, and may return if additional contact becomes necessary
According to Scene Safety Procedure (August 30, 2008) are SAFD personnel required to wait for a scene to be cleared by SAPD prior to entry? Why?
No. If adequate information determines risk is low enough and/or injury is severe enough to be a time-sensitive medical emergency
Any time radio contact with SAPD is deemed necessary to ensure safety and coordination of on-scene activities, how can the IC (or his representative) get a message to on-scene SAPD personnel?
Contact SAPD dispatch on appropriate channel. Identify yourself and specify what you need.
When is radio communication generally moved from patrol channel to traffic channel?
Larger incidents requiring a greater amount of SAPD coordination.
What is the channel called when all uninvolved personnel are moved from a regular patrol channel to another specified channel?
Clear channel
