- their input is critical regardless of if the child is being seen in the home, school, or clinic
- be sure you are constantly in communication with the families and their needs
- communicate with the parents (are they seeing the change in what their needs are?)

- health care model focuses on deficit-based approach
- recognize the strengths and interests of the child and use those to increase levels of participation
- gives the child meaningful choices (helps empower them
- collaborate with the child to set goals (What do you want to get better at? What do you want to work on?)
- with children, we have to look for their strengths and build from there to develop motivation
