What is the structure of an essay?
Introduction, 2 to 3 body paragraphs and sometimes a conclusion.
What is an introduction?
The beginning of an essay. Briefly state your points and your contention.
What is a contention?
Your overall position in the essay. (For or against)
What is the structure of a body paragraph?
TEEL
Topic
Evidence
Explanation

What is a topic sentence in a body paragraph?
What you are going to be talking about in the paragraph. Make sure it had keywords of the essay topic.
What is evidence?
Quotes or other pieces of data that you can use.
What is explanation?
Your reasoning. This supports your evidence and overall contention.
What is linking sentence?
The “mini” conclusion in your body paragraph. It links back to your topic sentence.
What is “weaving quotes”?
Where you put a quote in that fits the sentence. For example, this would be an example of “good weaving” quotes into the sentence.
How long should each quote be?
No more than 4 words.
Should you write an essay in first/second/third/fourth person?
In third person. You should use “one”. When directing to someone.
