A
- Read (1-2 minutes)
- Brainstorm (2 minutes)
- Outline (1-2 minutes)
- Write (20 minutes)
- Polish - a little (3-5 minutes)
Don’t say whether you agree or disagree with the article. You are evaluating not providing an opinion

How should you brainstorm to develop your essay?
A
Use the instructions to identify what you want to build your essay on
These will be given on the essay
- Line of reasoning
- Use of evidence
- Questionable assumptions
- Alternate explanations or counterexamples

How to structure the essay?
A
- Introduction
- Restate the arguments claim or conclusion
- Give merit to the author or argument
- Identify thesis, “the argument is flawed (e.g. omits important concerns that must be addressed to substantiate the argument)
- You can mention some of the big flaws in your intro paragraph, not required
- Body
- Describe 3-4 big flaws (Can be in one large paragraph or break out)
- You can Describe how the flaw could be improved / removed (i.e. More evidence, Additional consideration, etc) here or in the conclusion
- Conslusion
- In summary (in conclusion)
- Restate the flaws / fixes (Use alternative language)
Aim for 300 words (15 20 word sentences)

What should you keep in mind as you write your essay?
A
- A sentence should contain one clear, central thought
- Use modifiers to add complexity and nuance to the main thought
- Use signal words, such as therefore, howeer, and in short to signal transitions to the reader
