What conditions is it used to treat?
- GORD (Gastro-Oesophageal reflux disease)
- ulcers in stomach or intestine
- Stomach ulcers caused by NSAIDs
- Too much acid in the stomach
When to talk to doctor?
- If you have severe liver or kidney problems
- If you get a rash on the skin which has been exposed to the sun treatment needs to stopped
Interactions
Do not take if you are taking medicine containing nelfinavir (used to treat HIV)
Dosage to treat heartburn caused by GORD
Adults and children aged 12+: 40 mg capsule once a day for 4 weeks if gullet damaged
Once gullet had healed: 20 mg capsule once a day
If gullet not damaged: 20 mg capsule once a day
Dosage to treat ulcers.
Adults and young people aged 12+: 20 mg capsule twice a day for one week
Dosage to treat stomach ulcers caused by NSAIDs
Adults aged 18+: one 20 mg capsule once a day for 4-8 weeks
Dosage for preventions of stomach ulcers whilst taking NSAIDs.
18+: 20 mg capsule once a day
Dosage to treat too much acid in the stomach caused by a growth in the pancreas.
18+: one 40 mg capsule twice a day
Dosage for prolonged treatment after prevention of rebreeding of ulcers.
18+: one 40 mg capsule once daily for 4 weeks
State common side effects.
- Headache
- nausea/vomiting
