ERP4 radiological ops Flashcards
Rad ops
what are the 4 ways of exposure?
inhalation, ingestion, absorption, penetration/injection
*exposure is when radiation enters the body
what are the 4 types of radiation and what is the proper shielding?
Alpha-intact skin, paper, inches of air
Beta-1” of plastic, aluminum, glass
Gamma- several inches of lead, concrete, 1ft of dirt or water
Neuron- 3ft of water, 1ft of concrete, 10” of plastic
what is the difference between dose and rate?
dose- amount of radiation absorbed by body
rate- how fast the radiation is deposited
the Rad50 alerts at what rate, and measures up to what rate?
alerts at rate of 1mr/hr
measures up to 50mr/hr
what is normal background radiation?
.02mr/hr -.05mr/hr
What is a radiological incident
reading above background from legitimate source, but has not been released from container
*reading must be confirmed by second meter
what is a radiological emergency
source is out of container, confirmed by second meter
at a radiological event how often are members rotated?
rotated at dose levels of 5rem or when 1 SCBA tank is expended
what is the decision dose for the following emergencies:
general operations at a radiological emergency,
protection of major property,
life saving or protection of large populations,
life saving for catastrophic event
50rem for life saving for catastrophic event
25rem for life saving or protection of large populations
10rem for protection of major propert
5rem for general operations
rad ops
Distance vs Rate. if distance is ____the rate will be ____.
if distance is doubled the rate will be quartered.
ex 100r/hr at 1ft then it will be 25r/hr at 2ft
T/F
rad50 takes 1 min to show a change on the LCD screen
true
rad ops
at what rate is the hotline established?
where is the cold zone?
where is the warm zone?
hotline is at 2mr/hr
cold zone is less than 2mr/hr
warm zone is small area for decon or safe refuge area
T/F
rad ops
each member is responsible for monitoring their own dose, when the dose reaches 5REM rotate out, if unable to leave due to manpower notify officer every additional 5rem
true
how long are potassium iodine pills good for
5yrs
what kind of radiation does the ultraRadiac detect?
gamma and x-ray
