ERP's Flashcards
How does it measure brain activity?
Crude and over general measure of brain activity
What does data contain?
All new responses associated with specific sensory/cognitive and motor events that may be of interest to cognitive neuroscientists
What remains?
Event-related potentials which are types of brainwaves that are triggered by certain events
What has research revealed?
Many different forms of ERP including those linked to cognitive processes like attention and perception
What could never be achieved using ERP’s?
Specificity to the measure of neural processes
What do ERP’s have excellent of?
Temporal resolution which has led to widespread use in the measurement of cognitive functions
What is the P300 component thought to be involved in?
The allocation of attentional resources and the maintenance of working memory
What is there a lack of in the use of ERP methodology?
Standardisation between studies
In order to establish pure data in ERP’s what must be eliminated?
Background noise and extraneous material
