equilibrium-topic 10 Flashcards
what is a reversible reaction
a reaction where the products of a reaction can react together and reform the original reactants
how is a reversible reaction shown?
it is shown by using a double arrow
how many reaction systems are there in a reversible rteaction?
there are two
what are the two types of reaction systems that are found in a reversible reaction
one system is exothermic and the second is endothermis
what is dynamic equilibrium?
a state where the rate of reaction in both systems are equal.
what happens to the concentration of the reaction systems after they have reached dynamic equilibrium
the concentrations will remain the same.
what is one condition for dynamic equilibrium to occur
the reactions must happen in a closed system
what is a closed reaction system?
this is a system where no substances can enter or escape
what is le Chatelier’s principle used for
it is used for predicting the change of a equilibrium mixture if the conditions are altered
what does Le Chatelier’s principle state
When a system is subject to change, the system will alter to lessen the effect of that change
what does a pressure increase result in
will increase the yeild of the side with the fewer moles because this releases built up pressure
what does a pressure decrease result in
increases the yeild on the side with more moles as pressure has been lost
what is Kc
Kc is the equilibrium constant
what does a temperature increase result in
increasing the temperature favours the endothermic side and increases yeild
what does a temperature decrease result in
decreasing the temperature favours the exothermic reaction and increases the yield of the exothermic side
