1
Q

What is dynamic equilibrium

Q

What is a closed system

A

An equillibrium can only be establoished where no reactants or products can escape - this is known as a closed system

Q

When we say that the equilibrium of a reaction lies to the right what does that mean

A

In some reactions equilibrium is not reache duntil the forward reaction is nearly complete - here we say the equilibrium lies to the right

Q

When we say that the equilibrium of a reaction lies to the left what do we mean

A

In some reaction equilibrium can be reached early in the reaction - we say here that the equilibrium lies to the left

Q

Describe the equilibrium position of a reversible raction

A

For a reversible reaction which forms an equilibrium, the same equilibrium position is reached regardless of wether we start from reactants or products

Q

Describe the effect of concentration on the equilibrium

A

Increasing the conc. of reactants shift the equillibrium position to the right i.e. more product is formed

Addign product shofts the equilibrium position to the left i.e. more reactant is formed

Q

How does changing the pressure effect the equillibrium

A

increasing pressure causes an equilibrium to move towards where there are feewer moles of gas molecules

Q

When will changing pressure have no effect on the equilibrium

A

if there are no gases in the equilibrium

if there are the same no. of moles either side of the equilibrium

Q

How does temp effect the equilibrium

A

For a system n equilibrium, a rise in temp favours the endothermic reaction. A decrease in temperature favours the exothermic
