Equations, Units and Definitions Flashcards
Scalar quantity definition:
Quantities the have only size.
Mass units:
Kilograms, (kg).
Air resistance definition:
A force that acts in the opposite direction to the motion of the body travelling through air.
Weight definition:
The gravitational force exherted on an object.
Impulse definition:
The time it takes for a force to be applied to an object or body.
External force definition:
Force from the outside of the body, e.g. friction or air resistance.
Reaction force definition:
Occurs when two bodies are in contact with one another.
Mass definition:
The quantity of matter the body possesses.
Torque definition:
The rotational consequence of a force.
Angular motion definition:
Movement around a fixed point.
Distance definition:
The path a body takes as it moves from start to the finishing positions.
Angular velocity definition:
The rate of change of angular displacement (or the rate of rotation).
Displacement definition:
The shortest straight-line route between start and finish positions.
Vector quantity definition:
Quantities that have size and direction.
Acceleration definition:
The rate of change of velocity.
Momentum definition:
Product of the mass and velocity of an object.
Deceleration definition:
The rate of change of velocity.
Angular acceleration definition:
The rate of change of angular velocity.
Speed definition:
The body’s movement per unit of time with no reference to distance.
Moment of inertia definition:
The resistance of a body to change its state of angular motion or rotation.
