Angular Motion Flashcards
What are the two types of force?
- Internal force
- External force
Which type of force acts on a body during linear motion?
Both internal and external forces.
List some vertical forces:
Weight and Reaction force.
What is reaction force?
Newton’s 3rd Law:
“every action has an equal and opposite reaction.”
List some horizontal forces:
Frictional force (static and sliding) and Air resistance.
What is external force?
Force coming from outside a body.
What are the two types of frictional force?
Static and Sliding.
What is static friction force?
The force exerted on one surface by another when there is no motion between the two surfaces.
Which force acts before an object begins to slide?
Static friction force.
What is sliding friction force?
When there are two bodies in contact with one another that may have a tendency to slip/slide over each other.
What is internal force?
Force generated by the skeletal muscles contracting.
What is dry friction?
The friction generated between two surfaces when there is no motion between them (static friction force).
Which force is this?
The friction generated between the surface of a netball court and sole of a shoe?
Static friction force - there is no motion between the two.
When does friction occur?
When two or more bodies are in contact with one another.
What factors can affect friction?
- Surface characteristics of the two bodies.
- Temperature of the two surfaces in contact.
- The mass of objects that are sliding.
