Epithelial Tissues Flashcards
Where is Simple Squamous Epithelium?
Lining of blood vessels and the heart, lymphatic vessels (endothelium), alveoli of the lungs.
What does Simple Squamous Epithelium do?
Diffusion, filtration some secretion, some protection.
Where is Simple Cuboidal epithelium?
Some with microvilli in kidney tubules and some line terminal bronchioles of the lungs.
What does simple cuboidal epithelium do?
Secretion, Absorption
Where is simple columnar epithelium?
GI tract (microvilli), lungs (cilia)
What does simple columnar epithelium do? (contains goblet cells)
Secretion and absorption
Where is non-keratinized moist stratified squamous epithelium?
Mouth, throat, esophagus
Where is keratinized stratified squamous epithelium?
skin
What does stratified squamous epithelium do?
Protection (from abrasion, chemicals, water loss, infection)
Where is stratified cuboidal epithelium?
Sweat gland ducts
What does stratified cuboidal epithelium do?
Secretion, absorption, protection against infection
Where is stratified columnar epithelium?
Mammary gland duct, larynx, portion of male urethra
What does stratified columnar epithelium do?
Secretion, protection (contains goblet cells)
Where is pseudostratified columnar epithelium? (all cells attached to basement membrane)
Nasal sinuses, bronchi of lungs, trachea
What does pseudostratified columnar epithelium do?
Secrete mucus, move mucus (contains goblet cells)
