Epithelial Tissue Flashcards
Simple squamous epithelium
Characteristics: single layer of flat cells
Functions: diffusion, smooth lining, secretion of serious fluid
Location: Lungs, kidneys
Simple cuboidal epithelium
Characteristics: single layer of small cubes or wedge shaped cells
Functions: absorbtion and secretion
Location: kidneys and livers
Stratified squamous epithelium
Characteristics: multi layers of cuboidal cells that flatten towards the service
Functions: resist mechanical abrasion also barrier to prevent infections. And retards water loss
Location: epidermis of the skin, oral cavity and the vagina
Transitional epithelium
Characteristics: multi layer of cuboidal cells to squamous cells when stretched
Functions: allows for stretching of urinary structure
Location: urinary bladder and ureter
Simple columnar epithelium
Characteristics: single layer of tall cells
Functions: absorptions and secretion
Location: stomach intestines, gall bladder and uterine tube
Pseudo stratified ciliated columnar epithelium
Characteristics: single of layer of tall and short cells all touching basement membrane
Functions: mucus secretion and movement of mucus away of the lungs
Location: trachea
