History for Epistaxis
Onset, frequency, duration, triggers, controlling the bleed, trauma, nose picking, previous nasal surgery,, HPT, clotting disorders, aspirin, clopidogrel, facial pain, deep otalgia
History for Epistaxis in young males
Consider juvenila nasopharyngeal angiofibroma, nasal obstruction, headache, rhinorrhea and anosia
What to look for when assessing Circulation for Epistaxis
Pulse, BP and capillary refill
Ways to stop Epistaxis bleeding
Pressure
Cautery
Nasal pack
Surgery
Naseptin
Antibiotic and Disinfectant to prevent nose infections
How Nasal packs are used
- Pinch soft part of the nose and lean forward
- Avoid hot foods and drinks to prevent vasodilation
- Place ice packs on nose to prevent vasoconstriction
When to refer Epistaxis to ENT
Uncontrolled, posterior or recurrent cases
