What is episcleritis?
Acute onset of inflammation in the episcleral of one or both eyes.
What is the episcleral?
Outermost layer of the sclera, underneath the conjunctiva.
What is episcleritis associated with?
Rheumatoid arthritis
Inflammatory Bowel Disease
How does episcleritis present?
Red eye
Not painful but can be mild pain/irritation
Segmental redness
Watering
Foreign body sensation
Dilated episcleral vessels
What is not present in someone with episcleritis?
Discharge
What is episcleritis not caused by?
Infection
How does episcleritis usually take to resolve?
1-4 weeks
Self-limiting condition
What can be used to help symptoms?
Lubricating eye drops
What can be used to differentiate between episcleritis and scleritis?
Phenylephrine drops
