Temporary weakness after a seizure is known as what?
Todd’s Palsy.
How should define a simple partial seizure?
Localised symptoms, no loss of awareness, no post ictal symptoms.
e.g. a smell, abdominal pain, funny tastes, flashing lights.
Complex partial seizure?
Localised symptoms with an aura, loss of awareness and no post in thal symoptioms.
What is a Jacksonian seizure?
Usually frontal.
Twitching movements of one part of the body that then usually spread to the rest of the body.
Lip smacking seizure?
Temporal; lobe.
Parietal seizure?
Purely sensory seizure, numbness and tingling.
Occipital?
Visual phenomena such as spots, lines or flashes.,
1st and 2nd line medication for focal seizure?
1) Carbamazepine
2) Lamtrogine.
1st line for absence seizures?
Valproate or ethosuximide.
1st line for generalised epilepsy?
Sodium valproate or lamotrigine
2nd line for generalise depilepry?
Carbemazine, levtericateam.
Driving and have 1st seizure ever?
6 months
Epilepsy seizure?
No driving for 1 year
10 years for HGV.
What class of medications are a common precipitant of myasthenia crisis?
Beta blockers.
