What is it?
A
A benign cutaneous cyst

Where does it come from?
A
Epidermis or the epithelium of a hair follicle

How does it form?
A
It forms by cystic enclosure of epithelium within the dermis that becomes filled with keratin and lipid-rich debris

What is the risk? (2)
A
They can be painful, and because they have thin walls they can rupture easily

Are they common?
A
Yes

Who do they affect?
A
Usually young middle aged adults

Where do they occur?
A
Usually on the face, neck, upper trunk and scrotum

What is contained within the cyst?
A
Keratinous paste with consistency and odour of rancid cheese!

What is the treatment?
A
Surgical excision and drainage
