EPE module one Flashcards
define disease
an objective entity that afflicts the organs of a patient in a predictable manner
define illness
the patients own personal experience of having a disease
why are pain and illness difficult to quantify
pain if one of the most common symptoms for illness but both entities are subjective in their nature. gauging the extent of these things relies on the patients narrative and perspective to assess.

why do we engage in reflective practice
“The purposeful review, analysis, interpretation and understanding of one’s own experience to guide future actions.” Various methods of reflection can help you learn from experience so your skills can be progressively developed.
Reflection can help you to challenge your own thinking, assumptions and beliefs. It helps you work through and resolve difficult situations, all of which are to be expected within a medical career. Reflection also helps you to identify and work through the usual complex range of feelings that are part and parcel of being a health professional. Reflection is simply intended to provide a better grasp of what actually happened, rather than what should have happened. What you might do differently next time you are in a similar situation, what have you learned here?
