How do you assess children on a day to day basis?
Questioning, observing and talking. Private conversations in our sensory room gives learners the ability to talk
How do you record observations of the children?
Take pictures/witness statements
Explain what constructive feedback is
Achieve a positive outcome by giving advice that will be useful for there future. We can identify there weakness
What are the expectations for the age you work with, and what are the next steps for this age group
I work in a SEN environment so we do not have expectations, we look at there EHCP with there targets in and we work towards these. They have SMART targets (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time bound)
What are age related assessments throughout education (SATS and GCSES)
Y2- phonics screening and SATS
Y6- SATS
Y10- mocks
Y11- GCSES
then onto college/uni
How do you record assessment results for children
We write observation reports through pictures and using information. We use counters (visual) to see if work can be done independently
What are the advantages or disadvantages of using different assessment methods?
Exams
Good- fair, unable to be bias as someone you dont know marks, grades for future employment
Bad- anxiety/stress, bad day and disadvantage SEN
Coursework
Good- understanding, research skills, future jobs E.G teacher who marks coursework
Bad- difficulty to focus, falling behind, easy to cheat, parents help and can’t focus at home
Presentations
Good- self confidence, good for those who communicate through speech, transferable skills
Bad- anxiety/lack of confidence, boring audience
Give an example when you give a child constructive feedback based on a assessment
We encourage learners to do tasks independently. Our topic is managing own money and we support and give feedback on all there work using feedback forms. I can visually show a learner that two 20ps make 40p
What are the national curriculum requirements for the key stage you work in
SEN environment but if I work in mainstream
KS1 Y1-Y2= phonics/count/nature/catch
KS2 Y3-Y6= new words, sentence structure, whole numbers add and minus and use different measurements, living things and learn to swim
KS3 Y7-Y9= English language and literacy, understand new vocabulary, refer to evidence in text, algebra, ratio and proportion, chemical reactions, energy forces and space
KS4 Y10-Y11= read/grammar/mocks in all subjects you choose, solve problems and probability, science cells, periodic table, energy forces and space, pe promote healthy lifestyle
Give an example of a time you have reflected and improved on your own knowledge of something in the national curriculum
Understanding how printers work and digital equipment such as cameras, using photoshop
