Why is it important to provide feedback to support and facilitate an appropriate level of independence?
Improves confidence and motivation to learn. Feedback helps learners to see there strengths and weaknesses and they can reflect on this.
How do visual aids support teaching and learning?
They can express how they feel by writing on a whiteboard. They have pictures on there check ins and have objects such as visual cards “I’m okay” “I need help”
Give three examples of resources that you use to support SEN children
Resources to support could be check ins, whiteboards and laptops
What transitions are common in childhood?
Physical- draw, write, jump and run, puberty
Personal- friend moving school, new sibling, divorce, berevament
Educational- changing schools, having mocks and GCSE’s for the first time
How can a pupils background and experience impact their learning?
Poverty can affect a child’s background as they might not have access to a computer or have any resources. Poor health or having a disability could affect school attendance
How do you adapt learning styles and adapt approaches accordingly depending on the children they are supporting
Visual learning style- students that prefer seeing
Auditory learning style- students that prefer listening
At sheaf we use a lot of visuals to support our learners
Give an example of when you met a child’s individual needs
Tailoring maths to one of our learners interests such as pizza with different shapes on. Printing off colouring sheets that they like such as cars or flowers
Give three examples of teaching enhancements
We use laptops (PowerPoint) and do a lot of group work. We also draw as a lot of our learners enjoy this. Q & A where learners ask questions and become independent
Give three examples of learning theories that have a staged approach to children’s cognitive and social growth
Maslows humanist theory- achieving individual potential and self esteem
Shelter/health/food/sleep- develop
At sheaf we help learners to order their lunch. Some require support with eating. Some receive free school meals (bursary). The building has been risk assessed and numbers in class are safe. It is warm and comfortable to learn in. We use CPOMS for reporting incidents. We praise and use behaviour management strategies such as praise for good and firm for bad

Being a good role model/ right from wrong and how to behave
Skinners operant conditioning theory- positive reinforcement
Good behaviour- repeated
Bad behaviour- likely to be repeated
Reward charts work well as students focus on the outcome so it’s a good strategy to complete work (motivates)

How do you access lesson plans and timetables
Tutor folder and timetables emailed to us or printed out
How do you support ict?
Checking learners know what they are doing and I can support if needs be. We block websites and ask learners to create strong passwords
