Both had a full hour, Stephen went, then Elliot went the next day so that he got the support of African Americans in the room, Elliot supported the Civil Rights bill and wanted it to be passed.
Frederick Douglass & Emancipation Monument
At the unveiling of the Emancipation statue, Frederick Douglass said “He was pre-eminently the white man’s president. You are the children of Lincoln; we are his step children.” Was very surprising as it was supposed to be a good day of celebration and the president was there.
