Enzymes And Digestion Flashcards
What do Enzymes break down?
Big molecules for example starch and fats
Why is it important for Enzymes to break down big molecules?
So they can pass easily trough the walls of the digestive system
Where are the three places proteases are made?
The pancreas
The small intestine
The stomach
What does protease convert protein into?
Amino acids
What do carbohydrases convent carbs into?
Simple sugars
What does amalayse do?
Breaks down starch
Where are the three places amylase is made?
The salivary gland
The Pancreas
The small intestine
What does Lipases convert Lipids into?
Glycerol and fatty acids
Where are the two places lipase are made?
The pancreas
The small intestine
What does bile do?
Emulsifies fat and stomach Acid
Where is bike produced and stored?
Produced In the liver
Stored in the gall bladder
Why is bile important?
The Hydrochloric acid in the stomach is too acidic for enzymes to work properly so bile is an Alkaline and neutralises it
What do salivary glands produce?
Amylase that is an enzyme in saliva
What are two reasons the stomach produces hydrochloride acid?
To kill bacteria
To give the right ph for the enzyme to work
